Sugarglider
Product Information
Right now we have a number of ready to adopt baby sugargliders. They have been kept with their parents until they are adopted out so that they are properly nourished by momma glider for as long as possible. This helps the babies have a strong immune system and a confident personality.
If you live near Houston Texas we will meet you in Alvin or League City for free. If you live outside of that, we will crate and ship the little guys anywhere in the US that Continental Airlines flies for $185. That includes the IATA approved air transport kennel, the airfare, 911 security charge, fuel surcharge and the ground transportation. The good news is that additional gliders can be shipped in the same crate for no extra charge. Shipping overseas would be an extra $100 and that includes the required health certificates and governement clearances. Email if you have any questions.
Sugar glider care:
There are a lot of sites that talk about the care of gliders in great detail. Even so, we will give you our take on sugar glider care from the perspective of a breeder having worked with thousands of individual gliders over the years. Many sites go into such detail that they make the care of sugar gliders sound like a daunting task. It isn't that hard. It boils down to just 3 principles.
Protien - even tho they are called 'sugar gliders', sugar should not be a major part of their diet. Protien should be far and away the major element of their diet. There are a number of fine specialty foods for gligers, but we have never seen a problem in our colonies with using a high protien, low fat dry cat food. We happen to use one from Tractor Supply. In nature, gligers get a lot of protien from eating insects they find. These little guys just love to eat bugs. They seem to think they are little crunchy pies (i know... ewww). We suggest giving them super worms that you can buy online from cricket suppliers like Fluker's. They will eat just about any carbs (not just sugars). Bread, tortillas, fruit, cookies, frozen fruit juice. Just watch how much they get. Remember... P-r-o-t-i-e-n.
Play - They need exercise. Yes, people like them because they will sit in your pocket and be sweet during the day, but at night? Watch out, they are furry little rockets. Don't expect one to stay cooped up in a small cage all night and then be all happy happy joy joy to see you in the morning when you are getting up and it is trying to get to bed. Give them enough room and toys to expend some energy and they will be a lot more willing to hang with you quietly during the day.
Hiding - when they get sleepy, they want a place to hide. If you want them with you, that's a pouch or a shirt pocket. If they are staying home, that's a cloth pouch or a mug, a plastic cup or a piece of 2" PVC pipe. They aren't picky.
